Arganoil Therapy
The argan tree belongs to the Sapotaceae family and is native mainly to the region north of the Sahara, in south-western Morocco. Its extreme resistance to drought and aridity makes it an important source of shade there, and its roots, which reach depths of up to 30 metres, provide vital protection for the soil against erosion.
As the argan tree was once native to large parts of southern Europe and North Africa, it is now protected by UNESCO and may be used in south-western Morocco, but not felled. The traditionally extracted oil is pressed from the kernels of the tree’s almonds, which fall to the ground and are collected. The traditional production of this oil is a highly labor-intensive and time-consuming process: the kernels are first manually de-shelled using stones, then dried and roasted. Next, they are ground in stone mills and blended with warm water to create a paste. Through continuous kneading, this premium oil is eventually extracted. However, this traditional extraction method is increasingly being replaced by modern techniques such as oil presses.
Argan oil has a very balanced composition of oleic acid, linoleic acid and palmitic acid, and thus covers a broad spectrum of fatty acids. It supports the skin’s natural functions and has an antioxidant effect. Thanks to its cell-stimulating effect, argan oil is a popular anti-ageing skincare solution. Due to its intensive nourishing properties, it is suitable not only for mature skin but also for dry and sensitive skin, as it improves the skin’s barrier function in the long term.
This unique oil is also ideally suited for the care of skin conditions (dermatoses, allergies). In cosmetics, however, oil from unroasted kernels is optimal. Due to the high price of argan oil, adulterated oils frequently appear on the market – therefore, you should look for recognised certifications on the product.
