Production:
The primary method for extracting essential oils is steam distillation. Prior to the actual process, the raw material is chopped. This opens the oil cells and makes them more accessible to the steam. Flowers and leaves, in which the oil is contained in thin-walled cells directly beneath the surface, do not require further processing. Roots and herbs are chopped, dried plants can be ground, seeds crushed and wood grated. Naturally, not all cells are opened during this treatment; some of the essential oils also escape from the closed cells. The better the plant parts are prepared, the faster the distillation process proceeds. In steam distillation, superheated steam is used, which is passed through the plant material lying on a grate. The intense heat allows even substances with very high boiling points to be extracted. Other methods include distillation with water, dry distillation and pressing. Distillation with water is very similar to steam distillation, except that the plant material is in direct contact with the boiling water. Dry distillation is suitable for only a few plants, whilst mechanical pressing is mainly used for citrus fruit peel.

Citrepel 75 provides up to 5 hours’ protection against all insects Whether you’re travelling to tropical countries or sitting in your garden at home, our ECOCERT insect repellent keeps them all at bay. The insects, of course, as the natural scent of lemongrass is pleasant and gentle on the skin. Made in the UK and ECOCERT certified. Available exclusively in Europe from us and our partners. The handy 100ml pump dispenser lasts for approx. 3 weeks for one person. Mosquitoes are a nuisance on balmy summer evenings or whilst on holiday, and their bites are unpleasant. Especially in years with a mild winter and a warm, humid spring, mosquitoes can breed early and in large numbers. In the tropics, they are active all year round. CITREPEL75, our own product protects against ticks and all types of mosquitoes. This prevents annoying scars from scratched bites and reduces the risk of disease. Because CITREPEL75 is so gentle on the skin, it can be used on anyone, regardless of age. You can even protect your furry friend from ticks. Always without harming the environment.Protection with Cymbopogon Winterians Oil (in Citrepel 15%) is recommended by the WHO and the Swiss Tropical Institute in Basel. Good to knowThe first mosquitoes hatch at temperatures of 10 degrees Celsius and above.Other insect repellents contain plasticisers or even DEET, which corrodes rubber parts. Icaridin is harmful to the environment and DEET is only 70% biodegradable in sewage treatment plants. In contrast, lemongrass oil is 100% biodegradable and even edible. Why do mosquitoes bite?Only female mosquitoes bite. They require a specific protein found in our blood to produce eggs after fertilisation. When do mosquitoes bite? This depends on the weather and local climate. In Central Europe, mosquitoes are generally active in late summer and, in warm conditions, into early autumn. When they bite depends on the species. There are both diurnal and nocturnal species. Light plays no role in this. Mosquitoes are guided by scent. Why do mosquitoes only bite me?Mosquitoes are attracted to certain odours such as ammonia, uric acid or lactic acid. These are produced when you sweat and the sweat breaks down on the skin. This varies from person to person, which is why some people attract mosquitoes more than others. The air we breathe also plays a role, as mosquitoes primarily locate humans through the carbon dioxide they exhale. The more CO2 someone exhales, the more likely they are to be bitten. This is also why pregnant women are bitten more often, as they are breathing for two and are therefore easier for the insects to locate. Single active ingredient: Cymbopogon Citratus Leaf/Stem Oil is effective against acne, but is also used in products that promote blood circulation and firm the skin, as well as to combat excessive sweating and repel insects.
